Composed for the KCET series To Foster Change, directed by my friend Mobolaji Olambiwonnu. The series is about adults who went through the foster care system as children, how they dealt with the experience and who they are today.
A changeling is a fairy child that has been left in place of a human child stolen by the fairies. To me this was Jessie, the graffiti artist featured in the episode I scored. Listening to the music now, at the dawn of the New Year, I also hear it in another way. I sense a cinematic winter landscape: snow falling, pine trees, frozen tundra, and change.
The main instruments are piano and string orchestra. But you’ll notice that there are also a few other colors and sounds mingling with the music. This is something that I’m always attracted to—sonic color. As I start this process of sharing a little more information about my music—and how I go about creating it—I’m sure that the idea of color and texture will show up more and more.
I hope you’ll keep coming back for more of these Music Share posts.
