ACTIVE ARTS @ THE MUSIC CENTER
The Music Center of Los Angeles County
Music Director/Event Designer/Arranger/Mentor/Host
2006 - 2015
Active Arts® at The Music Center was a nationally celebrated model for civic engagement through the arts bringing together recreational artists from all over Los Angeles county to sing, dance, make music or tell stories via in-depth, low risk, mistakes-allowed events.
This series explored a wide variety of ways to engage our community and their music making desires.
"A celebration of the universal human impulse to gather and create."
Active Arts music events are designed to cultivate deep practice skills—a holistic approach to engaged, thoughtful, and deliberate practice. As we teach, we model this concept by patiently unpacking an idea, a technique, or a song, and strive to find the "sweet spot" between fun and work. When it comes to practice (of all types) success can only be achieved incrementally—there is no giant leap to mastery—so our goal was to mentor our participants and make the process joyful. At the heart of every event is a celebration of the universal human impulse to gather and create!
